BMBF-Funding projects
In close coordination with academic research groups, IWBio develops new areas of research within white biotechnology. In close cooperation with the State Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF), these proposals are assessed for eligibility for partial funding. The first projects with a total volume of 42 Million Euro over 5 years, funded in equal parts by the BMBF and industry, have already been endorsed by an international expert committee. Funds for these projects were approved in 2007.
Two additional funding phases were established in 2008 and 2009 within the BMBF research initiative “Industrial genome research on micro-organisms – GenoMik-Industry“. The current volume of all BMBF funded research projects organized within the IWBio totals about 80 Mio. Euro.

Networking
The IWBio executive committee regularly convenes with the BMBF and Project Management Jülich. These activities are an essential contribution towards advancing white biotechnology in Germany, which currently plays a pioneering role in both academic research and in the industrial implementation of this technology. Industry and BMBF will be providing a total of 600 million Euro in the next 10 years for white biotechnology research projects.
Member companies meet regularly several times a year to exchange information and ideas and discuss the development of various funding initiatives.
